An interview with DR Engineer Holger
How long have you worked at Ontrack?
I’ve worked at Ontrack for 23 years. When I explained to my uncle, who was the head of an IT department, what I wanted to do, he said, “Data recovery?! Why would you need that? Everyone has a backup!” How far from the truth, that is!
What do you think makes Ontrack different from its competitors?
Our development teams help us recover from challenging server jobs, SAN, NAS and RAID recoveries when no one else can. We also have remote data recovery capabilities that are unrivalled.
Where do you see data recovery going in the future?
We still see a lot of HDDs, but SSDs and flash are starting to take over. External backup drives and larger NAS systems are getting more familiar with private users in combination with Internet 4.0. Companies are steadily growing their storage capacity, but with tighter budgets, this causes usage of less reliable solutions or continuing the use of old systems longer than they should.
What trends do you see in the market?
With the growth in ransomware and malware attacks, securing personal data and memories is becoming more critical. Securing network layers is a fast-growing market.
Why do you think Ontrack is such a great place to work?
There are great people, which makes working a lot of fun. We are also continually working on new technology, so every day is different. The great thing is that we help customers daily.
What’s your favourite film?
What’s your favourite food?
My grandmothers’ SWABIAN “Dampfnudeln” (Steam noodles), and “Pfitzauf” with vanilla sauce and apple porridge.
What are your hobbies?
Travelling, salsa dancing, photography, and riding my new e-Mountain bike.
