Hard drive mechanical failure services

Mechanical Failures

If your hard drive is not working or is making clicking and/or grinding noise, it is experiencing a mechanical failure. This could be due to a head crash and/or motor failure.

Mechanical failures require a cleanroom environment in order to open the hard drive without causing further potential data loss. Contact one of our Data Recovery Professionals today to discuss the best recovery options for you.

Hard drive data recovery software.

If your hard drive is working, but you cannot access some or all of your files, then it is likely to be experiencing a logical failure. This could be due to a lost partition or accidental reformatting of the drive.

Common logical data loss issues include file deletion, corruption, or file directory damage from a virus or malicious program. If your hard drive is still recognized, you can try using our Ontrack EasyRecovery software to get your data back before sending your device to us.

Useful tips for increasing data recovery success.

Power Off

Turn off the power to your computer or storage device to prevent further damage. Recovery is based on the completeness of the data and file structure, any action to the device may destroy the data or the file structure.

Water Damage

DO NOT DRY IT OUT. Corrosion to the media begins with drying and increases loss of data. Place the hard drive in an air tight zip lock bag and send it as soon as possible to an Ontrack office for hard drive data recovery services.

Strange Noises

Turn off the power. If your hard drive is making strange clicking or grinding noises, this is a sign that your drive might have experienced a head crash and is not reading the data correctly. A head crash can result in permanent, unrecoverable damage to your files if the drive continues to run.

Reformatted or Deleted Files

Whether it was an accidental delete or if your files have gone missing, our DIY data recovery software might be your answer. Download a free trial of the software for a list of recoverable files. If the files you are searching for are recoverable, simply purchase the full license to download the data.
