New and improved features in Ontrack Fix-It Utilitiestm 3.0 enhance ease of use and data protection

New version of the award-winning utility expands operating system support, provides new and improved tools

ONTRACK Data International Inc. (NASDAQ: ONDI), a leading provider of data availability software and service solutions, today announced the release of Fix-It UtilitiesTM 3.0, a problem-solving utility designed to optimize, protect and tune up any Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, and now the new Me system. An upgrade of the award-winning Fix-It Utilities 2000, the new version includes powerful, time-saving features designed to maintain a system¡¦s peak performance, scan for viruses, perform basic maintenance and recover data lost to accidental deletion, viruses or reformatting.

"While the trend is always toward bigger, faster computers and more memory-intensive software (games, graphic programs, etc.), even powerful PCs can become sluggish after time," said Jon Eisele, Ontrack product line manager. "Fix-It Utilities 3.0 fights system slowdown, helps lengthen the life of a computer and provides diagnostic information to point out potential problems and keep PCs running at optimal performance."

Like its predecessor, the new version includes ultimate virus protection, hard disk repair, registry cleaning and crash protection. Fix-It Utilities 3.0 also includes these new and improved features, based upon feedback from customers and reviewers:
  • EasyRecoveryTM Professional Lite - This "do-it-yourself" data recovery software tool now recovers up to 50 files at a time - even if a system won't boot - and saves the files to a safe location.
  • JETDefragTM - A new and improved disk defragmenter that reorganizes a hard drive and consolidates data so files and programs aren't scattered all over the drive. It also includes IntelliCluster technology for high-speed file access that ensures data is arranged on a drive according to users' needs.
  • SMARTDefender - A new early warning system for hard drive failure that alerts users when their SMART-enabled hard drive (most of today¡¦s hard drives have this feature) is having problems. This feature allows users to save data before problems occur, helping them avoid the extra cost of recovering lost data.
  • Multimedia tutorial - This helpful demonstration guides new users through the tools and features contained in the product and helps them get started using Fix-It Utilities.
  • Bootable Rescue CD - For CD-boot-enabled systems, the Fix-It Utilities CD is now bootable and can be used to help restore a system that won't boot up, allowing the user to save data and restore corrupted system files.
  • Customizable installation - Users can now choose which tools to install and, if needed, can add or remove components at a later time.
  • Improved Diagnostics - Users can use this set of tools to test and troubleshoot today's latest hardware, including USB Ports.
  • Improved Rescue Disk - Included in the box, the new rescue disk has a new graphical user interface and improved tools.
  • PowerDesk®4 Pro - A file management system with a powerful explorer utility for viewing, searching and managing file systems.

Fix-It Utilities 3.0 supports Windows 95, 98, Me, NT and 2000 and requires at least 16 MB of RAM and 30 MB of free disk space. Fix-It Utilities 3.0 will be available in September at retail stores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $49.95. It can also be purchased online at
