Ontrack releases Powerdesk Pro 5 File Manager Software

Award-winning file manager software expands

MINNEAPOLIS, March 18, 2002 – ONTRACK Data International, Inc., (NASDAQ: ONDI), a provider of data availability software and services, today announces the release of PowerDeskâ Pro 5, a powerful new version of its award-winning PowerDesk desktop enhancement utility. Designed to ease file management in Microsoftâ Windows® operating systems, PowerDesk Pro 5 completely replaces Windows Explorer, giving users a wide array of tools to search, edit, delete, move, sort, view and copy files, including those found on digital cameras or MP3 players.

“As more and more people use their PCs for playing music, viewing digital photos, and storing personal documents, computer users need a file manager more powerful than Explorer,” said Jim Reinert, Ontrack’s director of worldwide software products. “PowerDesk allows users to more easily manage and preview files from their digital cameras or MP3 devices.”

New and enhanced features in PowerDesk Pro 5 include:

  • Enhanced File Searching Capabilities - PowerDesk Pro 5 helps users quickly locate files through searches by almost any criteria. Search by file type, size or date range. Search inside archived and zipped files. Users can even combine search criteria to search for MP3 files by a certain artist. A keyword search will even return search results with the matching text outlined.
  • Enhanced Previewing Capabilities - PowerDesk Pro 5 has improved file preview options, which allow users to view the contents of more than 225 file formats in a preview pane without having to open the file first. Also available is thumbnail viewing mode, which is particularly useful for browsing files in whole directories of images, including digital photos.
  • Personalized Files and Folders - With a simple click of the mouse, PowerDesk Pro 5 allows users to customize the color of particular folder icons. Users can also append notes to their files so they can remind themselves of what's in a file without having to open it. The FileTips tool also includes detailed information about each file, such as the title of the song in an MP3 file.
  • MP3 Collection Management - PowerDesk Pro 5 comes with a new tool, Playlist Editor, that allows users to manipulate and create playlist files for portable MP3 devices as well as multimedia applications, such as WinAmp. Users can also use the File Manager to play previews of files, search for files or rename and edit groups of files in a single action.

PowerDesk Pro 5 works with Windows XP, 2000 Professional, Me, 98, 95, and Windows NT Workstation 4.0 and will run on any 486 or Pentium-class computer with a minimum of 32 MB of RAM and 40 MB of free disk space.

Ontrack's PowerDesk Pro 5 is available for purchase at for $29.95 (download), $32.95 (download and ship), or as an upgrade for existing PowerDesk users for $19.95.
