Kroll Ontrack launches enhanced version of Ontrack Firstview to optimize e-mail analysis in internal investigations and for litigation

Enhanced software product equips IT with advanced search functionality, improving their ability to assist legal counsel in identifying the most pertinent case information quickly

Minneapolis – Feb. 5, 2008 – Kroll Ontrack®, the industry’s largest provider of paper and electronic discovery, computer forensics, ESI consulting, and courtroom and presentation services, today announced the launch of a new version of its e-mail investigation and analytics software, Ontrack® Firstview™ 2.0 to better aid legal and information technology (IT) teams. Now supporting the top two largest e-mail platforms, Microsoft® Exchange™ and IBM® Lotus Notes™, Ontrack Firstview 2.0 also offers advanced search and in-depth reporting capabilities to expedite the identification of significant e-mail communications in internal investigations and litigation.

Legal counsel and IT professionals familiar with Ontrack Firstview 1.0 will find the same easy-to-use desktop tool that allows for quick and secure access to specific case data that will allow them to, for example, investigate incidents of employee misconduct, form legal case strategy and intelligently collect data in preparation for discovery, but now can expect state-of-the-art proprietary concept search, advanced visualization and reporting technology.

Because IT is often called upon by legal teams to assist with internal investigations and litigation, Ontrack Firstview’s advanced search functionality and reporting capabilities permit faster identification of critical e-mail messages allowing legal teams to demonstrate conclusions through:

  • Conceptual Searching Enables users to enter a keyword or phrase and obtain items that contain concepts related to that term, delivering faster and more accurate results than conventional searches because of the technology’s ability to identify associated terms and concepts, even if they do not match any words in the query.
  • Advanced Visualization – Demonstrates, at a high level view, what topics and themes the messages contain and how they relate to each other, ultimately revealing connections that might have not been apparent using other review and analysis tools.
  • Advanced Reporting – Provides legal and IT departments with the ability to output key information and comprehensive analytic graphs or charts in an easily readable format, aiding users in demonstrating conclusions and findings to corporate executives, opposing parties or judges at the end of an analysis or anywhere along the way.

“Because most IT departments conduct e-mail investigation manually with the same systems used to create the e-mail communication, analysis for investigation, case strategy and discovery is often slow and arduous,” said Michele Lange, Esq., director of Legal Technologies at Kroll Ontrack. “The incorporation of advanced search and visualization technology into Ontrack Firstview, not only makes the investigation of Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes e-mails and case strategy formulation flow more quickly and logically, but also increases the speed and accuracy of the decisions that individuals make with respect to e-mail, because like documents are automatically grouped together. Advanced search is the way of the future for locating documents in legal matters.”

The launch of Ontrack Firstview 2.0 is a global deployment with availability in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, France, Australia and the Nordic Region. For more information about Ontrack Firstview 2.0 visit www.ontrackfirstview.com.
