Ontrack data international CEO adds perspective on future

With the recent announcement regarding the company's terminated merger agreement with Legato, Mike Rogers, chief executive officer of ONTRACK Data International, Inc. (NASDAQ: ONDI), today provided shareholders, customers and employees with perspective on the company and its future. “Business is strong. Our employee base remains intact and we have the resources to continue to move forward and grow the business. We have been gaining momentum as we have successfully been executing our data availability strategy. Our strong third quarter and solid backlog of Electronic Information Management business going into the fourth quarter have served as a springboard going into 2000.”

“We are very excited about the prospects for Ontrack in 2000 and beyond. Our data recovery business has been benefiting from new options added in the fourth quarter to the industry's only Remote Data Recovery (RDR) offering and from continued strong sales of our do-it-yourself data recovery software. Our Electronic Information Management business continues to grow rapidly. The large merger and acquisition job started in the third quarter was successfully completed in the fourth quarter. This job showcased our ability to respond quickly to a customer's needs, develop customized software and processes to extract information in a way that we believe no one else can, and helped us gain additional large job opportunities.”

“Our acquisition of Mijenix this past summer gave us a set of PC utility software that extends our reach in the data availability market and establishes a new retail channel for Ontrack. In the last three months, we've introduced three significant new products from this division - ONTRACK SystemSuite 2000, Fix-It Utilities 2000 and EasyUninstall 2000.”

“We are in the process of finalizing our results of the fourth quarter and all of 1999 and expect to announce our results in early February. As part of the process, we are reviewing the accounting, legal and other expenses related to the Legato merger process and we will be recording a one-time charge of these expenses in the fourth quarter.”

Rogers concluded, “With our leading data availability software and service solutions, I am excited about our future and am extremely confident about our ability to grow and be successful in 2000.”
