Ontrack announces Microsoft Windows 2000 plansONTRACK Data International, Inc., (NASDAQ: ONDI), a leading provider of data availability software and service solutions, announced today its plans for support of the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 operating system on Ontrack products and data recovery services - ensuring that customers planning to use the Windows 2000 platform will be able to take advantage of Ontrack's latest technologies.
"As the first company to offer data recovery services for Windows 2000 - and one of the first to offer Windows 2000-ready PC utility programs - Ontrack is committed to providing data recovery services for users of the Windows 2000 operating system," said Mike Rogers, Ontrack CEO. "Being Windows 2000-ready is a great opportunity for Ontrack to leverage its technologies to help customers migrate to new platforms."
As part of the initiative, Ontrack data recovery services and new PC utilities - including ZipMagic 2000, EasyUninstall 2000, Fix-It Utilities 2000 and Ontrack SystemSuite 2000 - are now Windows 2000-ready. In addition, Ontrack can offer data recovery services for data that may be lost as a result of an operating system upgrade from Windows 9X or NT to Windows 2000.
The most significant change in Windows 2000 is its enhancement of the plug-and-play hardware support. The enhanced plug-and-play capabilities will support the latest laptop and mobile devices, as well as next-generation hardware. It will offer a higher degree of reliability than Windows NT, with a higher level of performance scalability and response; standards-based security for determining proper safeguards for data and applications; and will work well with any server (UNIX, Novell NetWare, etc.)
Customers already using Ontrack retail-PC utilities on Windows 95, 98 or NT have the option to upgrade to Windows 2000 without having to purchase a new set of PC utilities. According to Ontrack customer Dennis Agresti, buyer at Staples, "Most of the utilities on the shelf are not currently addressing Microsoft 2000. Ontrack products are unique in that fashion."
