High school seniors learn about law and technology from Kroll Ontrack
Kroll Ontrack teams with non-profit organization, Street Law, Inc. to host student conference
Minneapolis – Nov. 13, 2007 – In an effort to inspire young adults to consider careers in law and technology, Kroll Ontrack®, the industry’s largest provider of electronic discovery and computer forensics services, has teamed up with Street Law, Inc., a nonprofit organization that partners corporations with local diverse high school law classes to teach students more about the law and encourage them to pursue careers in the legal profession. Today, more than 30 St. Paul, Minnesota students from Highland Park High School will spend the day at Kroll Ontrack’s Eden Prairie-based headquarters learning about technology’s role in the law.
Specifically, the all-day conference concludes a month-long program aimed to educate students about electronic discovery, computer forensics and data recovery. Comprised of interactive lectures and activities, the conference will help students understand how computer forensics solves crimes, how companies investigate trade secrets in the digital age and whether files can ever really be deleted . Students will also have the opportunity to attend a career fair on the company’s campus and speak with Kroll Ontrack employees from various departments, including human resources, accounting, marketing, sales, information technology, research and development, operations, and project management.
“At the end of the day, we aspire to open the eyes of students to different career prospects in the legal profession and provide them with an enhanced understanding of the law and how it relates to them,” said Megan Hanson, program manager for Street Law, Inc. “The partnership with Kroll Ontrack helps to achieve this mission by providing a diverse group of students with a unique opportunity to get a first-hand look into a growing industry they may otherwise have never known about.”
“At Kroll, we are committed to making a positive impact on society, both through the work we do for our clients and our outreach to the local community,” said Dana Kroll, director of corporate social responsibility for Kroll, Kroll Ontrack’s parent company. “Our partnership with Street Law enables our employees to come together as a team, serve as positive role models and work towards a common goal.”
Kroll Ontrack’s partnership with Street Law is part of the Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, which Street Law operates in conjunction with the Association of Corporate Counsel. Designed to help diversify the legal profession by partnering corporate lawyers with high school students, more than 30 companies around the nation participate in this program, including Kroll’s parent company, Marsh & McLennan (MMC).
In 2008, Kroll Ontrack plans to repeat the program with Highland Park High School and expand it into other communities where Kroll and MMC operates.
