Kroll Ontrack launches unique search technology in trial preparation tool

Equipped with Intelligent Searching Technology, Quick Review in Ontrack Prepview Enables Attorneys to Review Depositions Smarter and Faster

Minneapolis – June 3, 2010 – Kroll Ontrack®, the leading provider of information management, data recovery, and legal technology products and services, today announced the availability of a Quick Review feature within the Transcript Manager module of the Ontrack® Prepview™ trial preparation tool. Specifically, Quick Review locates topics by category, expediting the deposition review process and enhancing case strategy formulation by revealing aspects of a deposition that may not have been found through traditional search.

Many traditional search technologies only return exact results. Quick Review searching goes beyond retrieving exact matches to yield results that are related to each other and categorized by topic, thus producing a more efficient and comprehensive search and deposition review process. Specifically, the category groupings provide valuable insight about how a term was used in a deposition, allowing for a smarter review. Additionally, Quick Review displays the full question and answer associated with the search term. Displaying the search results in a question/answer format within a specific category allows users to review their search results faster than ever before.

“There are various situations in which attorneys review depositions. Sometimes they are very familiar with the deposition, while other times they are just learning about the case. Moreover, they may need to review deposition testimony as they prepare for additional depositions, or when they are prepping a witness for trial,” said Peter Fain, vice president of trial technologies, Kroll Ontrack. “In any case, the benefits of utilizing category grouping through Quick Review are additional insight into the content and a significant reduction in the time needed to locate the areas of interest when reviewing depositions and creating designations.”
