Companies across the UK make use of Microsoft’s SharePoint enterprise content management tools, but in many instances these firms could find they lack the necessary safeguards to keep their confidential files secure.
This is the view of Sean Glansbeek, managing director of Seven Days Technologies, who told readers of IT Web that putting in place an effective security policy for their data management applications should be a priority.
He noted that investing in third-party data protection providers could therefore be the answer, with typical safeguards on offer for businesses including data encryption as standard, managing permissions for information access and the prevention of staff from printing and saving Microsoft Office documents outside of SharePoint.
Mr Glansbeek argued: “Third-party SharePoint security and compliance solutions help organisations with a solid data governance and security model, as well as the ability to securely distribute information out of SharePoint to mobile devices.”
Kroll Ontrack provides software for MS Exchange and SharePoint, solutions for permanent data erasure, services for tape archives as well as data recovery.
