Integrated infrastructure revenues rise

Businesses across the globe are increasing levels of investment in integrated IT infrastructure and platforms, new figures from IDC have revealed.

Companies keen to leverage the latest innovations in data management are increasingly turning to integrated infrastructure to improve the responsiveness of in-house IT architecture and ensure greater levels of flexibility and scalability for the years to come.

Revenues for worldwide integrated infrastructure and platforms rose by 45.6 per cent in 2013, with the market growing to $7.6 billion (£4.5 billion). Overall, the segment generated 2.4 exabytes of data over the calendar year – an increase of 78.6 per cent from 2012.

The biggest integrated enterprise infrastructure players of last year were VCE (market share of 24.6 per cent), Cisco/NetApp (22.4 per cent) and EMC/Cisco (18.8 per cent). Meanwhile, the top three integrated platform vendors of 2013 were shown to be Oracle (39.1 per cent), IBM (15 per cent) and HP (1.1 per cent).

In each sector, a significant rise in sales was registered last year, with factory values growing by 12.2 and 98.7 per cent for the respective technologies.

Jed Scaramella, research director for enterprise servers at IDC, responded to the report: “Integrated systems have been one of the most important developments in the evolution of the enterprise data centre.

“The strong growth in the market is a testament to customers’ realisation of the value proposition and benefits these systems deliver. IDC expects the market to continue on its growth trajectory in 2014.”

Meanwhile, IDC research director for storage Eric Sheppard added growth in the integrated IT sector comes at a time of sluggish recovery for the general infrastructure segment, with this improved level of performance clearly attributed to integrated ITs myriad benefits.

These include faster time to deployment, consolidated management, reduced downtime and improved utilisation rates.
