Predictive technologies ‘the latest trend in IT security’

Businesses in need of additional data security measures are increasingly turning to the uptake of predictive technologies.

Data archiving responsibilities and the need for up-to-date data security measures were discussed in-depth at the 10th annual IDC IT Security Roadshow at the Grand Hyatt Doha this week (April 28th), with the growing use of predictive technologies a major talking point for attendees.

Increasing complexity within the level of threats posed to business IT security policies means firms are taking a proactive stance to safeguarding confidential data and this means the use of predictive analysis systems is gaining traction across several industries.

Megha Kumar, research manager for software at IDC Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, stated: “As the use of the hacktivsim for political and economic gain has risen significantly over recent years, organisations in the oil and gas, finance, telecommunications, and government sectors have increased their investments in IT security solutions accordingly.

“There has been a notable rise in IT security budgets for the year ahead, while spending on governance for data protection and privacy purposes has surged.”

Indeed, research published by Verizon earlier this month revealed the most common threats currently posed to companies from the online quarter – with 92 per cent of the more than 10,000 data security incidents that have been reported to the analyst over the last decade relating to just nine threat categories.

Cybercriminals continue to focus on those areas of business IT security that they are most easily able to access and therefore malware attacks, device loss or theft, distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and web app threats remain the most likely avenues they will take to attempt to infiltrate business security systems.

Failing to invest in the latest IT security measures is a recipe for disaster for firms in the modern connected business landscape and therefore IDC’s recent roadshow focused on in-depth analysis of spending patterns to limit vulnerabilities over the coming years.

Do you know what data is stored on your company’s archives? Minimise risk by conducting a tape archive audit before archive tapes are recycled.
