A new survey has shown that most companies in Europe are not yet confident enough to start shifting mission-critical data to the cloud, preferring tactical quick wins to more strategic deployments.
According to Ovum, which polled more than 1,000 employees from businesses across Western Europe, around nine in ten cloud users are happy with their off-premise investments.
However, fewer than half of developers – versus eight in ten budget holders – feel that cloud services are secure and reliable enough to handle core business processes.
Camille Mendler, the Ovum analyst who wrote the survey, said the results indicated that cloud “is no place for amateurs”.
“Mastery over application, compute and network – in conjunction, not in isolation – is the core requirement to take cloud computing beyond today’s successful, but tactical usage,” she continued.
