What's on your old backup tapes?

All companies throughout history have stored important information on backup media to ensure that their data is available for an emergency restore,  tax and law regulations or other future requirements.

This data is stored over time with different combinations of hardware, software and operating systems. But what else is there on your already archived legacy data and tape libraries? And should some of this data be destroyed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations?

The Danger Of Poorly Marked Backup Tapes

One problem with old archived data is that it can be easily forgotten. If you have poorly encrypted, unlabeled or corrupted tape archives, you cannot perform targeted restore requests and keep up with any data deletion requests in a timely manner.

Gray-Tape Auditing 2 Time-Consuming

Time-consuming search for data on unlabeled tapes.

Gray-Tape Auditing 4 Unmarked Bands

Unmarked tapes increase the risk of a data breach.

Gray-Tape Auditing 3 Data Required

Data required for legal proceedings are no longer available or cannot be found.
